Student Mock Elections at G&P

Fourth and fifth grade students at Graham & Parks were excited to cast their ballots today, as part of the National Student Mock Elections Project. During the past month, fifth graders researched candidates and issues and worked in teams to create powerpoints about what they learned.  They shared these presentations with fourth graders, to help them become more informed voters. Then everyone came to the library and voted!  Results will be tallied and announced on Tuesday, November 6th.  For more information, go to http://www.nationalmockelection.org/

2012-13 MCBA Program Launched

The MCBA (Massachusetts Children’s Book Award) program is an opportunity for 4th-6th grade students to read and discuss books from a statewide list of 25 titles in a variety of genres.  The program runs through early March, and every student who reads at least five books from the list is eligible to vote for their favorite. Voters are invited to a special pizza party where the winning book is announced.

For more information about books on this year’s list, check out this excellent wiki: http://ludlowelementarylibraries.wikispaces.com/MCBA+2012
